Barrel hoops are critical for structural integrity, while smooth barrel surfaces are essential for labeling, handling, and aesthetic appeal. For cooperages producing or reconditioning barrels in the 200-300 liter range (standard wine and whiskey barrel sizes), having dedicated hoop fabrication and sanding equipment is a game-changer.

1. Automatic Hoop Stock Cutting Machine

Consistent hoop length and square cuts are the foundation of quality hoops. The automatic hoop stock cutting machine feeds flat steel or stainless steel strip stock, measures precise lengths, and shears or cuts automatically. Wolin’s model includes:

• Programmable length setting (e.g., 600–1500mm per hoop)
• Pneumatic clamping and cutting
• Counter and batch stop functions
• Safety guards and emergency stop

This machine eliminates manual measuring errors and increases cutting speed by up to 5x compared to a bench shear.

2. Hoop Bending Machine

Once cut, flat stock must be rolled into a circular hoop. Our hoop bending machine uses three adjustable rollers (pyramid type) to gradually curve the strip into a perfect circle. Key features:

• Roller diameter: 120–150mm for smooth bending
• Capacity: Up to 6mm thickness and 50mm width steel
• Adjustable final diameter: Suitable for 200L, 225L, 300L barrel hoops (chime, bilge, quarter hoops)
• Electric drive with foot pedal control

3. Hoop Riveting Machine

After bending, the hoop ends must be joined securely. The hoop riveting machine punches and sets rivets (solid or semi-tubular) to create a permanent joint. Wolin’s hoop riveting machine offers:

• Pneumatic or hydraulic riveting force (2–5 tons)
• Automatic rivet feeding (optional)
• Interchangeable dies for different hoop widths
• Cycle time: 3–5 seconds per rivet

Using a dedicated hoop riveting machine ensures consistent joint strength, preventing hoop failure during barrel filling and handling.

4. Automatic Sander (200-300L)

Barrel exterior sanding removes roughness, old paint, or char residue, preparing the surface for branding, toasting, or simply for a smooth finish. Our automatic sander (200-300L) is specifically designed for barrel sizes between 200 and 300 liters (e.g., standard Bordeaux, Burgundy, whiskey barrels). Features include:

• Rotating barrel support with variable speed
• Wide abrasive belt (or multiple sanding heads)
• Dust extraction port for clean operation
• Adjustable pressure for light or heavy sanding

This automatic sander can process one barrel every 2–3 minutes, dramatically reducing manual sanding labor while delivering uniform surface roughness.
